The Prodigal Son Returns!

The United States is on it's way to the biggest stage in all of world sports - the FIFA World Cup! This coming year, the United States has had a fantastic year qualifying for the World Cup with a 16 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses - the best in their history. The true story however, has been the return of Landon Donovan. Landon is the national team's all time leading scorer and hero of the team.

This past year Donovan decided to take a sabbatical from playing soccer and travel around the world. Landon returned to soccer and was welcomed by criticism. Unfazed, Landon returned stronger than ever. Scoring goal after goal, and racking up countless assists. So many, that Landon is now the all time leading goal scorer in MLS history. Needless to say, it is a privilege that the United States is lucky to have a player like Donovan with 57 games for the national team in 154 matches. The rest of the world needs to look out for the World Cup next year. It is indeed safe to say that the prodigal son has returned, and Donovan will be on the prowl for more goals!

That American Sport

When one thinks about American sports, painted faces, bullhorns, football, baseball, basketball, and hockey come to mind. But there is one sport missing from this group - Soccer. Soccer is arguably the most American sport of them all. Soccer encapsulates the diversity and unique nature that makes the United States so great.

With the American league growing and thriving and top international players like Thierry Henry, Obafemi Martins, Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan, and Clint Dempsey (and formerly superstar David Beckham) calling Major League Soccer home, the league is a force to be reckoned with. Fans come out in droves to support their team, and make for a unique experience unlike anything the NBA, MLB, NHL, or NFL have to offer.

If you have yet to see an American Soccer match, you are missing out. The environment is absolutely electrifying and contagious. There is absolutely nothing like it, and that very well may be the reason why the other professional sports leagues have taken notice and upped their game. The Beautiful Game has taken America by storm.
